I think I want one, actually, I know I do, lol. Looking for a later year (87-93) manual ONLY if a 2.3, auto or manual if a 5.0. seems that 2.3's with Manual are really hard to find, all the ones I do find are automatic. Preference is a hatchback and I know those are still plentiful, I could go either way with a notch, and a convertible would be fun, but trunks are tiny in those. were there any weak spots with them beside the AL4D's?

I strongly suggest completely bypassing the 2.3 and getting a 5.0 instead. You'll wish you did if you don't. With all of the modifications I've done to mine, it still reels in 21-22mpg with a 70/30 hwy/city mix. It'll probably do 25-26mpg on a long trip.

Either way you go, a T5 swap is pretty damn simple. I've done 3 so far, albeit on all V8 versions. The hardest part is hanging the pedal. Any questions you have, give me a holler. I've been monkeying with these things for nearly 20 years now.

Why no on the 2.3? (besides the low power of them) I also like the 94+ so long that it's NOT a 3.8!

For the difference in power, you gain much more by losing minimal mpg's. There is also a lot more aftermarket support for the 302 based motors. So many options it's unbelievable.

Yeah true, I checked the figures, a 5.oh (in pretty much anything except an Explorer) gets better gas mileage than my old 03 3.0/auto 2wd did!

They are a little older than your prefered range but they did make a couple variaties of turbed 4cyls that could be fun (IMO)

The SVO's are cool little breed. Hard to find parts for, but definitely cool.

The had turbo GT's for awhile too didn't they?

I thought they only mustang with a Turbo was the 2.3L, which they are bringing back for 2015

SVO's aren't out of the question either, lol. Btw, if I do get a 2.3, is there a way to put the alternator where the a/c compressor is, (or where it would be, if it doesn't have a/c, like my B2300 doesn't?) That bothers me, vital accessories interfering with the timing belt cover, the design on the Rangers from at least 93-newer was much better!

Yes, there was one. They had turbo lubrication issues, and many of them are gone now. They were available 80-82 IIRC, but Ford dropped it because of the issues.

You can do anything you want with a welder and a cutter. I just made my own system because I eliminated A/C and P/S.

The problem with the svo is that is was missing 2 cyls and 1.5L displacement. They could go light to light with the 5.0s but lose miserably out on the highway.

Nothing beats a GTX.
