My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.

I had one of those and it was a pile. paid $900 for it and it had tons of issues. ended up driving it to the junk yard bc I couldn't sell it for $500 and it had the 5.0 eddie bauer edition, full time awd. no one wanted it. It was great when it ran and drove. Had plenty of power but lots of issues.... I wish I would have kept it just for the motor but things happen and money gets tight. I don't think $1500 is cheap enough for a parts only vehicle. Not sure what vehicles sell for around there but they are asking twice as much for what its worth in my opinion.

I completely understand. It would be a great swap vehicle. I definitely would beat them down on the price.

I bought my first one for $800 that needed a complete transmission (pretty sure all internals were changed) and spider gears (not sure how they blew those on an all wheel drive...) and some other stuff but I've put 30k miles on it in the last year and a half...

Second one I got for $400 and put tires on it... leaks oil out of valve covers and being a '98 the headers are cracked but the wife loves the thing...

They seem to go for around $500 or $1500...

They could have just drawn a better picture than that...

Not the best, but if someone was interested I'm sure they would send more.

"Parts only" usually either means no title, or something with the body or frame can't be fixed reasonably. If either of those is the case it isn't worth anything more than scrap value, even if it runs and drives.

You know this, I know this, but the people with the "no title" car for sale do NOT know this.

Right. They look at KBB and try to list it as if it was a whole vehicle. They don't get that the little piece of paper is part of the vehicle, and just as important to the value as the engine or trans.

FB market place keep an eye out. Found my 98 mountaineer for $300 bad trans I had to drive almost 3hrs to go get it with the Ram and my 19 foot trailer but it was so worth it.

That would be fun to sneak up on.

Can't decide if i would rather LS swap a first gen or manual t-case swap a second. First gens look so much better and have TTB... second gens ride nicer for long hauls, disk brakes all around and have airbags.

manual t case swapping a 5.0L sploder is cake... find a 4406 manual from an F150 '97-03 and shifter, front driveshaft from the same if 4.6L, rear driveshaft from a 5.4L Expedition up to '03, get a conversion joint (1310 to 1330) for the front axle yoke, put a hole in the floor and carpet (I cut mine out while the trans was out, only missed by an inch, fixed easily through hole in carpet), cut off corner of front gas tank bracket (it has to be off to get the case in anyway, only held in with 4 bolts) and reassemble...

I just aint care about the stupid front suspension, I cranked the torsion bars a little and put 31's on it, does pretty good offroad even though it's a heavy pig...

After I get my shop built it'll get a Jana 54 and 10.25" in the back with inset wheels...

I despise unit wheel bearings with a passion...

I didn't have to cut the tank strap on mine when I installed my manual 4406. It wasn't in the way. I guess because mine is an extended cab.

I have mixed feelings. I never want them on my own vehicle, but they sure do make me a lot of money.
