Ford's 2011 F-150

It's not quite that simple. First, they are doing the baja thing with a motor that has already seen extensive testing. Then, they are taking a different truck and going to put two fusion stock cars on a trailer and do 24hrs of laps at as quick of a pace as the truck is capable, so lots of WOT on the straights, and they are only stopping for gas, tires, and drivers. Good test of the brakes I think. They are also taking one logging, but I read it as three different trucks. The Baja truck's motor has already seen 24 hour testing and has been beat on hard they say.

I think that would be some serious false advertising if it was three different trucks considering they declare the engine tag in every video. And they show the truck every time and I see no differences at all.

If it a a different motor doing the Baja 100 then it will have to have a forged engine tag because it's getting a public teardown. From what I can tell it is 2 trucks, the regular F-150 for all the tests except Baja then a Baja-class F-150 at the end. It's more and engine test than anything else because we already know the F-150 chassis makes a tough truck.

I don't care what they say it can tow, no way in hell would I want to tow with one...

Why not? It's understandable if you have something to tow that weighs more than a F150 can tow, but I don't understand why you're being so negative about the truck. I've seen more and more F150's towing 5th campers that I used to only see behind 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

Because there are better trucks that will handle the load better, pull the load easier, and will stand up to the constant work of towing.

I've seen way to many people pulling horse trailers with half tons that have the rear bumper practically hitting the ground, and this i with gooseneck trailers...

You know, come the think of it, im pretty sure the ecoboost f-150 is the only truck since the chevy cyclone as a pickup to roll of the assembly line with a turbo under the hood. Theres a few out there with superchargers, i know nissian made a light pickup with a small supercharger on it, and i think you were able to get the lighting in a model that was supercharged. But a turbo the only two that come to mind are the ecoboost and the cyclone...wierd lol.

Of course that doesnt include diesels...a turbo on a diesel nowa days is such a required and standard system its kind of like an alternator. I dont even think they make a diesel for any sort of road vehicle without a turbo anymore.

The thing that made me so smile on the 3.5 Ecoboost is the flat-line torque curve and how much of it produces so early. 420 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm, hell yes!!! That is stump pulling, hill climbing, tow anything, do anything, go anywhere, torque pulling power.

Even the new Explorer is getting an Ecoboost, a 4cyl 2.0L (if I remember correctly). The Explorer is also getting some really nice upgrades like Terrian Management System for the 4x4 versions.

All these new, reinventing ideas from Ford has really boosted my pride for them. The only things that keep me from buying. Don't need an Explorer, it can't hual 2,000 lbs or carry timber. And the F-150 is a bit big for what I need, but can handle everything I will need in the future. The big downside to all this is the price. Talk about a kick in the balls. I guess starting prices today is $30k and up. My dad bought his 91 Ranger 4x4 for like $16k back in his day and got all of it back when he traded it in back in 1997.

Must be quite the horse trailer.

Mine sits level with my 5k tractor on a bumper hitch car trailer, right where it is rated.

They have simulated 10 years of extreme driving on it first. They are using three different trucks, but are swapping out the motor with the test motor.

Do you tow with your Ranger? I've towed some pretty heavy weight with my 150, and it's only a 4.6, never did it feel unsafe.

Whaaaaa? there putting the 3.5 into the f-150? I know its a bada** engine, but it comes in the taurus SHO. And, idk, it just seems wrong how a "heavy duty" pickup will share an engine with a mid-size sport sedan lol. It seems more fitting to put the 3.5 into the ranger since its a smaller truck. I think they should put a new V8 in the f-150....perhaps an ecoboost V8? The power of a 10 cylinder, the fuel economy of a v8 lol.

They put the 4.6 in the mustang and 150 for years, as well as the 302. What makes the difference, is the transmission, rear end ratios, computer, and so on.

off topic but, you could get a tacoma with a factory supercharger aswell. although it seems like an expensive 30hp for $3500.... especially on a junk truck. lol.

Rarely, why tow with my ranger when I have an F350 sitting in the shed?

Like...? Say you're going to tow 8,000 lbs a few days a week for the company you work for. Why would you buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck when the F150 is more than capable? The torque curve of the ecoboost is pretty much straight across the graph like Learjet stated.

Not everyone has an application for a one ton truck....

And yes, you made a point, but it's invalid. A half ton truck shouldn't be pulling 14k lbs. That's obviously unsafe, and not what it's designed for. You can't compare a 1/2 ton to a 1 ton. And to say that a 1/2 ton truck shouldn't be towing anything is quite preposterous.

Never said they shouldn't be towing anything... Every time someone rolled through the park with a half ton pulling a horse trailer, the truck was always sagging, every brand did it, especially the dodges, the point is that people seem to think they can pull the world with their half tons, when really they're putting more strain on their trucks than they would be if they used a realistic vehicle for their applications. Just because your truck is rated to to "X" number of pounds doesn't mean you should tow that much...

That is still a baby truck, there are others that will handle the load even better so why stop there?

$500 will get you a L-Series grain truck you could put a gooseneck hitch on and rip a one ton up oneside and down the other.
