I am replacing my rear shackles, and i burned the bushing out of the leaf. Ford says it is part of the spring, and i have to replace the whole spring. I don't think it is true, can someone verify this?

i had to replace them on both of my 93's that i had.. actually my brother did it. it was the biggest pain in the ass because they are riveted to frame and you have to use an air chisel and a torch to get them off. Obviously we used grade 8 bolts to reinstall the new ones. The shackles were were like 80 bucks total for both sides for the upper and lowers. Yea he had to pretty much melt out the bushing on the leaf spring. He cursed me both times he had to do it. Good luck with it

Yup. Poly bushings slide right in and are the only way to fix your problem. If you could buy the original style bushing, they would be next to impossible to install. The factory uses a huge press that slams them in.
The bolts to replace the rivots don't have to be high grade, the rivots are dead soft. I use grade 5 and have never had a problem. I have been doing that for over 20 years. I have broken frames and not the grade 5 bolts holding the hangers.
Next time you run into this situation, cut the hanger and drop the spring where you can get a good swing with a big hammer. You need something as an anvil against the cut off hanger to keep the sleeve from coming out of the rubber. I've done this successfully many times and saved the bushing.
By the way: If you think Ford sucks, you should try working on the others!

Yes burn em out and replace with poly bushings, slide right in.

I didn't have any problem finding original style bushings or replacing them in the springs. the local spring shop that does the springs for the big trucks got me the bushings overnight and changing them was as easy as using my bench vise as a press.

Sweet i really didn't want to replace the whole leaf.

By ford sucking i meant because they said i had to buy the whole leaf. I don't mind working on fords in general.
