i was wiring in the dash cam for my F-250 and found a remote starter in the console (THIS one), but I don't have a remote start key. Is getting this active as simple as getting a new key fob that is compatible with it? Is there a test procedure I should do beforehand to make sure it works? Is there a certain fob I should be getting?

Not getting as much info in the google searches as I'd like, but it appears to be wired in normally, and there's the little antenna for it on the windshield. Key fob just had door lock/unlock/panic.

Here is the GEN-2 installation manual: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/jmcdo28/2008-12-30_042008_base.pdf

Yes, you need the Fob that can access that one unit, it will be coded, like the lock/unlock Fobs, so new Fob would need to be programmed to Remote start unit

Not sure of any way to "test" the unit outside of getting a fob and see if it can be programmed/added.

Manual probably has some tests for correct installation.

Thanks, the manual is very helpful - I couldn't find anything online for it.

Guess I just need to get a fob and give it a whirl, preferably before winter sets in
