Hello need some help. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 2.5 auto. When I shift through the gears on the indicator it shifts fine through R,N,D. When I get past d2 and into d1 it stops and wont engage first gear. It wont continue on to 1st. The gear indicator lines up with the appropriate gear but when its in park its a little off. I was wondering if you could adjust the shifter cable. If so how do I do so? thanks

Not sure, to be honest...is this a column shift or on the floor?

Either way, you can check the linkage but you may need someone in the cab to run it through the gears while you watch...see if it's hanging up on something...rubber hoses and wiring harnesses can get in the way of linkage...

If it's a floor shift you can try removing the center console and the floor plate to see if it's binding on something...
