Anyone that has a rusted off rear bumper or spare tire (or even shackle & bracket) should contact the ODI (Office of Defects Investigation....NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and fill out a complaint form....it's quick and easy.
They would especially like to hear from those that had there rear bumper or spare tire fall off while driving (and any accident that happened).

Going to your dealer or writing Ford will get you nowhere....the ODI is the place to vent your anger!

The ODI had Toyota recall 750,000 pick ups from 1995 - 2000 for rusty frames.

The toyota recall was because the frames were breaking in half behind the cab...little more serious than a rusty bumper or spare tire holder.

This clown posted this on R-F too. Like was said over there, if you live in the RUST BELT, expect this to happen if you don't take care of your truck.

You remind me of the lady who ordered coffee from McDonald's and sued them because she burnt her lip. All because the lid didn't say it would be hot, even though the dumbass knew it was to begin with.

Quit looking for a handout and take care of the issue.

I have a 1979 F-350 with some rust on the bottom of the doors, I think I should get Ford to buy me new ones. They should have lasted at least another 65 years or so. Maybe I could sue them for pain and suffering because I've been driving an unattractive truck?

You know you want too:D Maybe I should've got chapped by the fact one of my leafs broke... wait... I just went and fixed it:headbang:

well the whole part of rusty shackles I can see them recalling. Who hasn't had this problem? 2 of the 3 Rangers I've owned have bad shackles/hangers...and we've done 3 at the bodyshop I work for in the past 6 months, one of them a 2001!

If it's made of metal, it'll rust eventually. It's up to you, the owner, to look over these spots time to time, and repair as necessary. Suing gets nowhere, complaining till you turn blue gets you nowhere. Unless it's life threatening, grab a wrench or welder or something and do something about it.

Shackles do that because of how they're built. It's a natural pocket. My rangers rusted out, my Nissan's rusted out, my dads dodge had them rust out, and his F250 highboy has one that's rusted out.

My 91 has origional hangers and shackles on it still....they are like new still, just a bit of surface rust on them. Keep them clean and they will last forever. And I do live in a rust belt area.
