Ford must hate us

Try changing the plugs on the 3.0L in the Fusion/Milan/Mazda6/etc. Have to remove the intake manifold to get to the back 3. Expensive if you pay someone to do it

I never had a BB Chevelle but I had a 75 Monza 2+2 with a factory V-8...that was when I first started working on cars...I gave up. On some vehicles on certain plugs using the box end of a wrench on the spark plug socket made it easier.

Hmm, i never had any problem changing the plugs on my 2.8, i thought it was one of the easiest of all the vehicles i have ever worked on. I didn't have to go though the wheel well :icon_confused:

Do you have air conditioning?

The AC heaterbox runs 2/3's the length of the engine, without that stupid box it would probably be very easy and you wouldn't have the compressor to deal with on the other side.

The best thing to change plugs on that I have is my tractor, it is easiest to use an open end wrench. It is just a spark plug jutting out of the engine block, to use a socket I have to remove a sheetmetal shield, a plain old wrench from the side works perfect.

Yup I have a/c - number 3 and 4 are annoying buy nothing to difficult

Extendo bit to the rescue!!!!!

sounds a lot like the old 8 plug 4 cyl... the driver side was similar.....

I gave up out of frustration, took it to the stealership; a few hours and 60 bucks later, all was good except my wounded do-it-yourself pride.

I have a 2007 Ford Freestar, the minivan, obviously frontwheel drive. Sideways engine so you have to lay on the engine to change the back 3. By feel.

This is after you take off the black plastic shield thing that goes above the wiper motor and remove the wipers and then take the whole wiper assembly off the top of the hood area.

Then you can put cardboard across the top of the engine, reach your arm back there and change the plugs and wires.

And no, you can't go from the bottom because the trans is in the way.

Have fun.

Those rear plugs on the Freestar get a lot easier if you take the intake manifold off too.

Where do you guys work? I work in a big 14 bay shop and the nice techs here work on my truck for the cost of a lunch or two!:thefinger: BTW Plugs on 5.4 expeditions pay 5.5 flat rate hours-I think thats the longest on mitchell

ok this really makes me not wanna do plugs and wires on my 2.9 with the damn dizzy cap under the intake plenum :(

They are easy. Did all mine within 45 minutes if you didn't count getting the wrong wires. If you have big hands, that seems like the only way the cap would be hard. Now, swapping a 5 spd into a 89 b2 auto while lining up the new manual tcase, that tests your patience.

Pfffff. Non-A/C 2.9s are about the easiest V-engine to do. If you really can't get the dis cap off, take the intake off. It's an extra 20 minutes and it makes everything out in the open.

Yeah, thats not going to happen. You should not have to take off an intake to change plugs.

It's 6 bolts and a $20 gasket that should probably be changed by the time the plug interval comes around anyway. Might as well.

All you whiners have obviously never owned a big block Chevelle...

Want fun changing spark plugs?

BWhahahahahaha...

Or late 90's Z-28.

Good luck.

also, your opinion might have been valid 20 years ago, but nowadays it's routine, the tight clearances and superior engineering don't leave a lot of excess room for fooling around, so, if you are that gung ho that an intake never comes off to change spark plugs, stop buying anything made after 2000 now and forever.
