so i did my first oil change on my own, drove 60 miles of a 65mile trip, was hearing a funny whirrring noise the whole time but figured it was just new oil sounds, then when merging onto a freeway shifting from 3rd to 4th at about 45mph my wheels locked up and i spun out on the freeway and now my rear axle wont move, and my trucks sitting in my driveway.

so my neighbor whose bout to graduate from wyotech for tranny work was trying to get into the stick shifter thing to see if her theory of why it locked up (i dont know what her theory is, but something bout a metal link thingy snapping) but yeah,

we removed my plastic dashboard thing, covering the gear knobby thing. then we removed a bracket thing with regular screws. but then under it to remove more stuff and look at the link thing she was talking about, you needed a torx bit to remove that AND THEN ALSO over two of the three torx bit heads theres a large bolt running out of the stick shift thing to where i cant remove the torx bolts on there without removing that bolt running above them. so my wyotech friend is thinking maybe they put that there so people wont remove it. anyone know about this? is it one of those things where if you remove the bolts on the top then to put them back on you have to get in like awkward position underneath to hold screws in place or something?

if your talking about what i think your talking about
right at the base of the shifter before it goes into the floor there is a stud that is parallel with the floor. you have to take the nut off of one side and put it on the other side and tighten it...the stud will come out and the and then you will be able to take out the the three screws

Man, all the technical talk is overwhelming :icon_confused:

you guys kick ass

but as i was wondering earlier... will those torx bits screw back into place just as easily as they came out?

i've never had to remove the bolt to get those 3 screws out. i just move the shifter around into a different gear to get it out of the way.

it sounds like your transmission is locked into 2 gears and the ONLY way you can hope to fix this is to remove the transmission and take the top cover off. find out why it happened and disengage the shift collars from the gears

never heard thingy used so many time in my life cumulatively as you managed to use in a single paragraph. i'm going to buy my mom a bouquet of roses n learn to be a little more patient.
