my ranger has 36s super swampers on it
a ford 8.8 with a detroit truetrac and ive recently noticed what i think is a problem

everytime i turn a corner the truck howls like it sounds like im doing a burnout
my friends have told me three things
1- since my tires are so dam bald they keep losing traction and the truetrac locks
2- a clutchdisc inside the diff broke and its fully locked all the time

has anyone eles had this problem please let me no cause im lost and confused and slightly confused

1. How long have you had it installed and do you drive around corners on the throttle?
2. Have you driven in a manor in which you 'think' you could have broken it?

Truetrac's run worm gears not clutch's, but I broke the one in the front of my D44 and it would lock/unlock hap-hazardly... and detroit does NOT make parts to repair them.

Post some photos. I don't see photos of your truck. If you don't know what is wrong with your truck...why are you driving it? Take it somewhere and have it looked at. Much safer to have somebody lok at it now then you hurt yourself or somebody else, Bro.

theres pics of my truck on my profile ,,,, i no almost everything about my truck but not to big on the rear diff knowledge since i get my diffs already assedmbled

yes im slightly on the throttle when i take certain corners
i dont think its brocken though since ive brocken rear diffs before and this doesnt seem like the case

What was the third thing you were told?

For the pics i saw on your album, its a badass truck. But if thats how u drive it, it makes me think u broke something.

usually how i drive it offroad but its only driven that hard 3-5 times a year
other then that she is my daily driver

the third thing i was told it that it was nothing bad maybe just some bad gear oil

If your on the throttle around corners it'll stay locked and start spinning the inside tire. If it's staying locked all the time, somethings broken or bound up. Pull the locker, pull it apart and let us know what you find.... Mine had chipped worm gear teeth and would no longer engage/disengage smoothly.

thanks wahlstrom1 i think i might have to try that think weekend

true trac 101

size matters, big tires screw up true tracs,,,consult the mfgrs specs

true tracs don't lock/unlock,,,,as one wheel starts to spin the worm gears are forced sideways (they have 45 degree pitch) and that creats friction between the worm gears and the housing ends. its completely linear with an infinitely variable amount of bias

don't put friction modifier in a true trac, it's too slippery and they can't gererate enough friction to start the torque bias stuff
