ford 302, but what tranny?

alright, as you might have guessed from the title, i have a ford 302 motor, but i need a tranny. i have a '94 4x4 splash, and what tranny should i look at?

it will be a daily driver still, but will get used and abused, so it has to last, but would like some decent mpg out of the whole combination....would it be good to switch out my rear end too? and different gearing?

c4 modified, c6, or an aod from a later year car.

if your gonna use it as a D/D i'd go with an AOD for the extra gear and better gas mileage

I have an AOD in my 88 behind a 302. Granted mine is on 36 swampers with 4.10's, my overdrive is basically useless unless I am going 70 plus mph. In drive and up the mountains pulling a ATV I get anywhere between 13 to 16 mph. On flat land empty I can get 16 to 18.

i was only thinking 33s while it was my d/d. im not sure on the gearing or anything yet?

this wont happen for awhile yet. cause i dont have time to not drive it for more than 2 days right now. so, mid summer, atleast. if not, wont be for another year after that.

A C-6 Tranny would do. I'ts a heavy duty tranny. I just put a 302 with a c-6 tranny in a 85 ranger but havn't changed my rearend yet with hight gears in it yet. It runs different with low gears with your stock rearend. Having trouble with my batary going down don't know if my batary can't hold the charged with my electric fan, electric fuel pump , power locks & windows & radio & engine too. Things you need to no.

dont run a 3 speed anything if u want mileage. the c6 is a big trans that is useless unless ur making 350+hp and if thats the case what kind of daily driver would that be. the c4 is a pain in the ass unless u get the art carr output shaft and tail housing for a ranger 1354 t-case. if it were my truck i would get an aod and do the research on what is needed to do the 4r70w(aod-e) front pump and first gear swap for the better first gear. im guessing this truck is 4wd so i would try to find an np 205 for ease of installation. if its not then i read the post wrong.

shoot I would go E4OD (electronic version of the C6 on steroids and it has an OD gear). you can find it in any 91 - 96 full size Bronco with an automatic.
