i posted before that im changing a carbed 2.3 to fuel injected and i noticed the new motor has circle intake holes and my fi manifold has a flat bottom. will it matter if i just put mine on the old head with the cirlces? or should i switch out the head.

Going to FI the main thing is that the injectors are clean and you have the proper fuel pressure...aside from getting all the wiring, sensors, et al...

It's not so critical with FI to have port matching because the fuel is actually injected almost directly into the chamber, whereas a carb setup requires the fuel to travel from the carb to the chamber...that's where port matching really can make a big difference...

yea i figured cause the injectors r at the head pretty much. i have all the fi stuff in the 87 just putting this old 2.3 in from the junk yard.

how hard is it to setup the wiring?

It's not hard (as in difficult) but it is a fairly major swap...you pretty much have to remove the dash and all external wiring...especially if there are different options on the two trucks...and the fuel tank sending unit, plus mount the high pressure fuel pump to the frame...

I went the other way...took out the 2.9 wiring that had A/C and cruise control, power seats et al and swapped in the 2.0 wiring harness, the heater box, and even the steering column...then I found that the trim for a tilt steering doesn't fit the column for non-tilt steering...plus if your doner truck has a different wheel base you need to make sure the lights for the back end and the fuel pumps are the right length...an extended cab is only about a foot longer, but that can be a major PITA when you find the wires are too short to reach...

But, overall, it was straight forward...

yea my 87 is already fi so im just putting the cabed motor in with all the stuff from my blown motor. taking mine out and taking stuff off it then switchin it to the other 2.3. and all new gaskets, tune up and filters while its out.
