For all the computer junkies on here..........

It is a perk of being a student or faculty member. I am faculty. I also get other things for free as well, Office Enterprise Edition, Antivirus, Adobe everything just to name a few. I am officially running 7 now. So far so go. :yahoo:

Not sure if the newer OSs are the same, but I bought an upgrade for XP (to XP from older) and even though I only paid $135 for it (the full disk was $300+) it was actually a full install CD...you just have to reboot with the CD in the drive, set the BIOS to boot from the CD and let er rip...

Well with 7 your wall paper can cycle through picks of your choice. :yahoo: I am really liking it so far.

hoosier can you get me a copy for that price if i send it to you on paypal and pay for you to ship it to me?

brandonwh64 let me look into it. I can only get the 64 bit version now I think. I can only run 2G of RAM in my laptop so I went with the 32-bit. My laptop is 3 yrs old and I cannot afford a new one right now.

hmm i think id like to get 7 but will have to see what my computer builders input is on that but may be looking to upgrade the girlfrinds Laptop to it in the coming year. those of you guys that are getting sound like its much better then vista right?

7 takes all the good stuff from XP Pro and Vista Ultimate and puts it together. 7 uses less RAM to run than XP did/does.

Using less RAM isn't necessarily a good thing. As new PC's come with more RAM (most I've seen recently have 3-4 gig with 2 at the minimum) having that RAM sit unused is a waste.

Ram is not useless in any circumstance because it uses less ram let other programs you have installed use more ram especially if your multitasking you need that ram to help you out not being hogged up by vista

I'm running windows 7 release cadidate and I love it. I can't afford a new OS. So when this runs out in June, I don't know what I'm going to do.

I've yet to see my RAM come close to all used even in vista which idles near 2 gig usage (4 gig intalled)

It is useless if it's sitting doing nothing. If I do need the extra RAM being used by the OS it will release what it's using for other programs.

If you can actually max out 3-4 gigs of ram on any os you are far from the norm and any os will have the same problem.

That isn't fair. I only have windows 7 beta which I LOVE....... It runs like a champ on my socket 939 pc with out an issue at all! I used Vista and it just ate up my memory and HD space and was SLOOOOOOOOOOOW compared to 7!
