I am looking at picking up a used folding factory tonneau cover and I have two questions for anyone who might have one.
Not so important but
How waterproof does it keep the bed?
Much more important
How hard is it to remove the entire cover and is it something that can easily be carried off the vehicle?
I want to use my truck as a daily NYC driver and need some security but I also will use it to haul motorcycles so the cover will need to go off and on often.
Thanks in advance.

Waterproof but quite heavy. A two man job really.

yup. it's always doable if you have some creativity with one, but rely on it being a two person.

nah you can do it alone, just lay in the bed and lift with your arms and knees to get it out of the brackets, set it down katy corner on the bed rails then fold it in half and manhandle that heavy bastardo right off the tailgate

folding factory tonneau cover? Is the a hard cover or soft vinyl? Anyone have a pic of this? I was not aware there was a factory option

check the thread bout 2 down from this one started by Sdude2008, i posted some pics of mine and the brackets on the truck.
Its a hard cover, both halves fold up from the middle, i love mine i just gotta get it rekeyed since i moved it from my 03 to my 2011

its one piece thats hinged in the middle, it slides into the aluminum brackets and clips in with slide latches, same as the center divider. then there's brackets that go in the corner stake pockets for the ends of the cover to latch onto. ill take some new pics in a little bit after it dries out (just rained here) i was planning on putting it back on anyways.

sorry forgot to add the tailgate locking part, it flips out and catches in the back cover latches so you can only open the tailgate if you have the key to the cover

I just bought one of these covers on Craigslist, but it's missing the mounting hardware/brackets. If you could repost these photos, or maybe email them to me I'd really appreciate it. I plan to fabricate what I need, and it would be very helpful to see what the original parts look like before I get started.

Thanks,

Matt

Alexpmcmurphy: You mentioned rekeying. The cover I bought has a front lock that works but I have not been able to get the back lock functional. I like having a different key for the cover but do you know anything about replacing the lock itself? or the whole lock and cable mechanism? Thanks.

Oh and one other thing for everyone... DO NOT attempt to drive with either part of the cover folded over on itself unless you have it securely strapped down. It may seem heavy but let me tell you when that MFer decides to blow open/closed you'll think your rear end fell out. And when it blows the struts out you'll be lucky to find them again. BTW does anyone have a source for new struts for this cover? Thanks.
