fog light valance

has anyone sanded the texture off a fog light valance to make it smooth? just wondering what to use and the best way to do it. also does anyone know if 97 fender flares will fit a 08 fender? looks real close.

The textured lower valance is paintable, no need to sand it, and once it is painted you wont be able to tell unless your face is right up against it. i dont believe 97 flares will fit 08 fenders

i was thinking about building it up with primer first hopefully leveling out the texture.

You can try a filler primer, it may work. I chose not to in case of uneven spots and that type of thing

It would take ALOT of high build primer to fill the texture. If you really want the smooth shiny look, I would use a DA and some 80 or 180 grit, and sand the texture off evenly, then use 320 and go over the whole valance. Then use 3-5 coats of some high build primer, and block/wetsand, then paint.

Scuffing and shooting the valance would work, but you will still see the texture a bit, unless you do the steps above, and it will not shine quite like a smooth surface.
Also, if you hit the bumper on something like a curb, or a stump etc., it will probably crack the paint. A raw valance obviously won't crack.
