My names Nic I have 1997 ford ranger regular cab manual 2.3 and recently bought a 8.8 rear end out of a 2000 explorer. Has anyone ever used an adjustable proportioning valve before, the axle I bought is equipped with abs in the rear but the truck I drive was not made for it. I have 4 disk brakes and want to use all of them! I have been looking at forums and it says this will keep my rear brakes from locking up. Is this a good replacement or is there a way I can get abs?

You do not want ABS. ABS sucks bawls. All you really need to do to proportion the brakes is get a 97 Explorer master cylinder. I'm running what would effectively be an identical setup in my 87 with no problems what so ever.

Cause being able to stop in a shorter distance is a bad thing?

Oh I agree that it looks great on paper.

My real life experience with the systems has been that they cause more problems than they solve. I have driven my 87 with no ABS for 10 years now and can't remember a single instance where I can look back and think "wow, that would have turned out so much better with ABS".

ABS makes you dependent on technology to help you drive better. No ABS forces you to be more aware of your surroundings and to think farther ahead.

Thanks alot do I need the lines too or just the master cylinder and my existing lines?

and a 97 explorer master cylinder or a 2000? 97 is the year of my ranger

Get the 97. I have a 97 Explorer rear and master and a 97 Ranger front axle (and brakes). I have no problems with my brake system except that I am currently engaged in a round of "weakest link" with my brakes lines.

I popped one two months ago and now the next weakest spot keeps breaking as I fix things.
