so my 89 ext cab with a 2.9 needed a new clutch so from the begining its been nothing but trouble with bolts snaping or having to cut em off. so im trying to seperate the transfer case from the tranny and it wont come apart fro some reason. and the tool i have to undo the hydraulic line doesnt seeem to fit it in any way. idk then when i was pulling the starter i broke a brake line and it was leaking bad as heck. its a pain and im hating it, its my first time doing a clutch any insight would be greatly appreciated also does the slave cylinder have to be replaced? thanx

i had the same exact problem with the hydraulic "quick disconnect" line. It looked like someone took a pair of vice grips to it, and the tool that the clutch kit came with did absolutely nothing. Im not sure if anybody knows any tricks, but i brought the whole tranny down to the local auto stores, and everybody was stumped and i had to cut it. Once cut you can remove it from inside the bellhousing, and purchase another one from the junkyard for about $40, including a new resivoir. i would highly recommend replacing the slave cylinder, you have to purchase that seperatly, usually under $75. as for splitting the tcase, take a crowbar gently to it. the tranny is aluminum and you do not want to bend or crack it.

ok so i ordered a new slave cylinder and rear main seal today and from the way its lookn if i cant get this quick release tool to work ill be replacing the line going to the trans from the master any tips on the quick release?

you have to push the line towards the trans with the fork of the tool up in the fitting and then you push out on the tool, its a real PITA and you might have to twist and move the line around first to get it loosened up. The tcase is usually stuck to the trans with some RTV so use a old flat tip screwdriver or fine tip pry bat and just tap it in there and work your way around, just be careful cause when it starts moving its likely to slid right off the trans output

ok thanks im still having trouble understanding the line but ill see if i can make sense of the way you said to do it

he may not have the white sleeve that belongs there, it was gone on my ranger when i bought it. in that case, use a hose clamp with the worm gear busted off to slip in there and remove the line

its got the white sleeve im going to try it right now ill let you know how it goes, i watched a video on youtube on how to do it so i kinda got a general idea of how to do it. ill let everyone know thanks again
