Ok, I searched around, using both the Google search and the site search. I came up with lots of threads on the FM146, particularly on swapping to for an M5OD, and a handful of threads on the 1354 case, but nothing that really answers my question.

I need an good answer to this before I tear stuff apart, because I don't have much time left this working season, and the Ranger is not running right.

Has anyone put a 1354M behind an FM146? If so, which shifter setup did you use, or does it not matter?

I have the 1354, I have a couple front drive shafts for it, I have a 1350M on there now, with no issues, and I have one full shifter set for each, I just want to swap it before bad weather comes this year.

For the record, I do have an M5OD for the BII, but it needs a sex change operation before I put it in.

The shifter pivot bolt to transfer case mounting flange is the same for the FM146 and the M5OD. (Both 5.5 in. I just measured it.) So I can't see a reason why the 1354-M5OD shifter wouldn't work on the FM146.

I know most of the parts are the same, and the trans dimensions are very close, my concern comes more from the positioning of the shifter. If you look at the manual/manual bezels for the M5OD and the FM146 they are almost mirror images. On the 146 the t-case shifter sits behind the trans shifter, on the M5OD the t-case lever is forward of the trans shifter.

I know the shift towers for the two transmissions are in different locations, I just want to be sure that is all that is making the difference before I tear it all apart and get left with a hole in my floor that I can't seal.

I swapped from the FM146 to a M5OD on my BII... I had to do nothing at all as far as my dual-t-case setup and it's shifter linkage went (just had to swap (modify) the boot assy because the M5OD stick is further forward). I think you'll be fine.

Pics of my linkage are on my BII page if you're wondering... it still uses the stock shifter bosses on the side of the trans.

The only way I can see to find that out is to compare the shifter assemblies side-by-side.
