This is an 88 Ranger 2.9 manual transmission. FM146. I have searched transmission and transfer case for the connector. Any help and picture would be appreciated.The sensor was broken off into harness

Only four possibilities - speed sensor on the transfer case (by the speedometer cable, this is my guess based on the cable length) or the 4x4 range switch on the t-case near the shifter, the reverse switch on the right side of the transmission or the neutral switch on the top of the transmission by the shifter.
Thanks for the replies. I found it. It is the one on top, just under the floorboard.
