fm146 rebuild?

Hey guys, so my fm146 is on its last leg, and one of my shop teachers (ASE master tech/Ford A tech) tells me to either rebuild it or get a new one. So obviously, it'll be a lot cheaper for me to rebuild it and I have the factory manual to do it. My question is, can I get away rebuilding it without having all the dealership specialty tools "required" to do the job? Has anyone here ever attempted it? Thanks

What is the factory manual called?
Where did you find it?
I also need to rebuild my FM146 tranny. and I have been looking for months for a manual on to rebuild this transmission.
