Got my new engine from the wrecking yard the other day. It is a 4.0 auto, it will be going into my 1994 manual. Got the flywheel and flex plate off the engines, and when I went to put the flywheel on the new engine, I noticed the bolt pattern is slightly offset. How do I make sure I am putting it on the right way? I think the haynes manual says something about making a mark, but since I am puttting on a completely different part, how do I line it up properly?

There may be one but I've never seen a flywheel that would go on wrong. The bolt pattern is either such that the flywheel will go on there only one way or there is a pin hole that must be aligned..

Thanks Jim, I will take a look at it again. I think there is something I'm missing because I was able to put the flywheel on, put all six bolts in and then remove the flywheel, rotate it a half turn and then put all six bolts in again. So whatever I'm doing it seems like I'm not aligning it properly.

on mine the bolt pattern is set so the flywheel will only bolt on one way so you need to turn it till the bolt holes line up. thats wut I had to do anyways

you must be missing the pin on the fly wheel look for a little hole in the frywheel and one on the crank and line them up

Looked for a pin hole or alignment mark and couldn't find anything...It seems to bolt on whichever way I turn it. Here is the back side of the flywheel:

And I cannot find any alignment marks on here...

see the holes at the top those are balance holes so the fly wheel is balanced independently bolt it on and get on with it
