I have a 2004 Ranger that I bought a used engine for. The used engine is in excellent condition with great oil pressure and compression, and only 37k to boot. Problem is it didn't come with the flywheel on it. I have a completely new clutch kit including a new flywheel. So my question is...How do I make sure the flywheel is lined up correctly? Can't find markings anywhere on the flywheel or anywhere else for that matter. #1 piston is at TDC and that's as far as I've gotten. I guess what I'm needing to know is, can I just bolt it on, or does it need to line up in a specific way? Need to get this engine back in and going before Monday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the engine is designed for a specific imbalance then the bolt holes will only line up in one position. Just find a spot where you can get all the bolts started and you are good.

To answer your question if it's a 4.0L.
Orientation of the flywheel on a 4.0L isn't required, Just bolt it on.

i know it is for the 4.0l ohv but what about the 4.0l dohc?

And there isn't a 4.0 DOHC. DOHC requires a total of 4 cams.

I was trying to be a little more subtle with my method of correction.:D
