If this questions been in here before, I apologize. Can the flywheel be cut down during the clutch replacement, or would it be wiser to just have a new one installed? I'm looking at this cost wise, but also the longevity of the flywheel is obviously important too. Thanks

You mean "RESURFACED" I'm a thinkin I picked a brand new one from advanced auto for under 60.00 tax and all.I'd call the store get the lowest then the machine shops and compare.

If the clutch has been replaced before, it is likely the flywheel has been turned in the past... In this case I would get a new flywheel because you will be making it thinner and thinner (especially if you have deep heat cracks or severe glazing). I've heard stories of flywheels coming apart and doing some serious damage because they were turned too many times and got weak... For the cost of a new one I would just replace it... but if it looks original you'll probably be OK

I know most wouldn't advise this but I've never replaced or resurfaced a flywheel when doing a clutch and I've never had any problems.

Thanks guys. I'll have to look at it when I get the tranny off and decide from there...

When I replaced my clutch, I had the flywheel resurfaced and it was just fine. It was like 10 or 20 bucks and well worth it to have peace of mind knowing everything is in good shape.

When I replaced my clutch the flywheel wasn't really glazed at all, so I just scuffed it up with some emery cloth. No problems.
