Just wondering if anyone else here tie flies... I've done it most my adult life.

This is one I tie for panfish through the ice. They even glow in the dark. Tied a half dozen over the weekend... sure hope to get a chance at some perch and gills sometime this winter.

Kinda hard to tell size... but it's about the size of a nickel.

I do, but I'm not great at it so I mostly just tie big saltwater streamers and teasers. I tie "non fly fishing" lures like bucktails, spinners, small jigs etc as well. For the small trout stuff I just do basic stuff like San Juan worms, and wooly buggers. For the more elaborate flies I usually just wait for a sale at bass pro or cabelas instead of spending hours cursing and making a mess.

This is about the best I can make with small flies. :ROFLMAO:

That's a pretty nice wooly bugger... those will catch about anything that swims.

I mostly tie steelhead flies... but do a bunch of stuff. I did tie for a couple shops back in Michigan.... but doing production work took all the fun out of it. I still sell a few but mostly because I enjoy doing it.

I really wish we had a actual fly shop around here. There was one in Dillsburg PA that had beautiful locally made stuff. But they sold out and became a TFO store.

They're harder and harder to find. They all closed up where I use to live and the one that was here closed a couple years back. I probably owned a hundred times more supplies then what he had on the shelf. That's why I tie my own... hard to beat catching fish on your own hand crafted flies.

I fish for almost everything so I have everything from 2-3 weight fly rods to heavy offshore shark and tuna gear. My tackle room also has more gear and lures than most shops. :icon_rofl: I have my own rod building equipment as well and I've made a few of my own fly reels.

Sorry guys. I fish with these lures.

LOL... I could probably buy a bunch of fish with all I've spent on gear.

That's a pretty sweet rob building station...

That's actually an old one I built many years ago and now collects dust. It wasn't long enough to do big one piece 12'+ surf rods so I made a much bigger one. ?

This is where fish come from...

It’s called Woolley’s fish market... if you give them money, they give you fish.

Someone has to catch them and bring them there first...

So you’re saying they give someone else money and they give them fish? Then I give them money and they give me fish?

I think there's probably 2 or 3 more middle men in there... and the bribes to the DEP and FDA.

I used to tie flies for fun and for wall art. Don't have any pics of them but I'll have to look through my old tackle boxes to see what I tied when I was just 12-13 yrs old. My brother in law got me into it when I was young and bought the basics and I took it from there. It was fun and I'd like to tie some more. I got a HUGE kit of supplies from my neighbor for $10. It is 2 large organizers FULL off different hooks, eyes, skirts, hardware and a bunch of other stuff.

Fly tying can get weird. There's always that one guy at the stream who spends 30 minutes digging around in the water picking up bugs. Then goes back to his truck and pulls out a 1,000 dollar mobile tying bench and starts tying flies that precisely match the current hatches. Always seem like they are way more interested in tying than actually fishing.
