Recently added bars leaks to my radiator. Heater quit working. Tried the normal flush it would work for a few days.

Added 2 cups of cascade powder dish soap to a gallon of water. Let it idle 20 mins did a 5 gallon flush. There was a lot of powder soap on the bottom of my jug.

Are you dumping your trash at this site?

Yes, CLR, lol.

Cascade is a low suds formula through :)

Any frothing at the mouth?

Back flush the heater core, after warm up feel which heater hose is warmer, that's the IN hose.

After cool down pull the IN hose off at the engine end, point it down at the ground(or into a bucket if you want to see what comes out).
Pull the OUT hose off at the engine end, put running garden hose(med flow) to hose end and hold it there.
Lots of gunk should flow out, all the stuff that flowed in and then got stuck, regular flush can't get that out because flow direction is the same.

Blow out the water with your mouth then pour in warm water with CLR mixed in, let it sit for 20 min then back flush again.
Repeat as you see fit.

And just FYI, the '94 heater core costs under $25 new, and takes about 15 minutes to remove and replace, 4 screws(under glove box) and the 2 hose clamps

I have to agree with kowboy and straycat BUT if you don't know....you don't know.

I used to never think about dumping stuff like rad fluid probably because I never knew how BAD it really is. That stuff is TOXIC! It doesn't take much to kill a human and even less for an innocent animal, never mind all the insects and bugs. If you survive it screws up your liver. And it is a very painful death. It is naturally sweet tasting.

Now you know.

Actually its just right outside my house. I asked the landlord about it they said they want the weeds there dead. And we just had a wind storm that'd where all the trash accumulates. And there was no anti freeze in that puddle.

I read online about using clr in a few instances. But I already had the dish soap. Works good

I agree with just replacing the heater core. Stupid cheap and stupid easy. Then you can either replace the in/out hoses or just clean them when you replace the heater core.

Would have replaced the heater core at 20$ but this was on my Saturn. And the stop leak was plugging upeverything . Was starting to run higher temps. Plus id rather mix a solution than tear all that crap out.

Brrrrr, This weather, a tendency to run warm wouldn't bother me much. What is leaking on the Saturn ? :D

It had a water leak. Every time you drove it it would leak about a half gallon when you parked it. The radiator on the truck has just froze a little before this and anti freeze at a half gallon every drive was expensive. Could only find the leak on the sub frame rail. Damn side ways engines. So I put leak seal in it.

Started plugging up the radiator and heater core. Then I fixed it with dawn

Actually apparently most new antifreeze has a bittering agent to deter accidental consumption. Now our wives have to find a different way to kill us. :D

I agree with you about dumping rad fluid though. Many municipalities allow you to pour it right down the drain. Apparently (from what I was told, not entirely sure how accurate) despite its toxicity to animals bacteria eat it as they would any other sugar.

The chemical composition of Ethylene Glycol breaks down and dissipates very fast once seeped into the ground. Its toxic form is right out of the bottle or radiator.

While of course its not good to dump any chemical, only the grass will die in that picture or possibly an animal may consume enough to cause death before the ground absorbs and breaks down the chemical composition of the ethylene glycol into a non harmful state.

The stop leak crap on the other hand mixed with the ethylene glycol is oil based and will make it into the water table if you have well water.

I guess my point is that if I don't know what can happen, I don't take a chance on harming my world. I hope that you do the same....Tread lightly.
And I'm not perfect. I do some bad things sometimes but try not to. I think our governments need to make it easier to follow the law and provide easily accessible recycling centers for stuff like rad fluid. And then we have to use the recycling. While the ground may be able to adsorb and change glycol into non-toxic stuff, it's not the right way to do it.
