I was out in the desert with the Ranger, and the quads, and noticed Trans fluid coming from the bell housing area. Looks like it could be coming from the front pump area. We got it onto the lift, and inside the bell housing is soaked in fluid. The trans is coming out this weekend, but was curious as to if there was a common problem with leaks from the front pump?
Truck is a 1990 Ranger super cab 4x4 2.9L with the A4LD trans.
Thanks

It commonly happens when the trans gets WAAAY too hot. Get the biggest aux cooler you can find and put it in series with the factory cooler. The fluid is probably all burnt to hell too, so I would do a full flush with new fluid.

We put a bigger cooler on it a couple weeks ago. I still have the factory cooler sitting on my tool box at work. Guess I'll pop that puppy back in there with the new one. I have a couple power steering fans off of some Mini's. Think I might put them on the coolers also.
I know the trans got hot, we checked the fluild level while we were out there, and it was waaaaay up the stick.
