I'm the in process on changing the slave cylinder in my M5OD and am trying to tackle a few other issues while I've got good access from under the truck. Those cheap sheet metal heatshields that protect the floorboard from excess exhaust heat are pretty well toast and I'm debating removing them before they fall off/rot away even more.

Will I end up melting my carpet inside the truck if I do and if so, what is the best option for replacing them with something that will offer some heat protection? I've thought about some heat shield matting material either adhered to the exterior of the cab floor or something under the carpet where the cat/exhaust runs. Other option would be having some sheet metal bent up to somewhat match the stock setup, but that might be more $$$ than I'd like to invest.

Any thoughts guys?

mine did that and have nothing on it now. no melted carpet yet.

I would get some aluminum and hand form it to fit kinda close to the floor and just use a couple of existing hole in the frame and bolt it on. basically what they did on trucks with their ranger.
