So I've had this truck about 6 weeks. The CEL will come on and off once per fill up. Take it to AutoZone for the OBD. It always says EGR fault.
I've taken the EGR off and cleaned it, replaced the gasket, & it seems to move freely.

The EGR is about $80 bucks and this EGR position sensor thing is about the same. Any way to check one or the other for sure before throwing money at it?

What about the gas cap that says if I don't tighten it - it can give a CEL?

WTF?:black_eye:

Post the exact code number that you get from Autozone and all info on your truck. Year make model engine 4wd or 2wd. auto or manual. Once we know the code we can get to the bottom of what the problem is.

P0402

My truck is a 2000 4X4, Auto, 3.0. Stock XL w/ 68k miles.

Thanks for the help.

P0402 Excessive EGR Flow Detected
Possible Causes
* DPFE EGR sensor is damaged
* DPFE EGR valve source hoses loose or connected wrong
* DPFE sensor slow to respond or sluggish (it may have failed)
* DPFE sensor signal circuit open or shorted to ground
* PCM has failed

Here's a test you can run.
1. At the sensor, back probe the Brown/Light Green (BR/LG) wire looking for the voltage for the DPFE Sensor signal. A good sensor will read about 1v.
2. If the voltage is abnormally high, check the Brown/White (BR/WH) wire for 5v and the Gray/Red (GY/RD) wire for a good ground. Also check the BR/LG wire for 5v with the sensor disconnected. If all wires check out OK, but the signal voltage is incorrect with the sensor connected, replace the defective DPFE Sensor.

I would be willing to bet money on the dpfe. They seem to fail pretty regularly.

Well that's a crap shoot... I'll look for anything wierd on the plumbing and electrical - but it seems like more of the sensor from the response. The PCM sounds $$$

It's most likely the dpfe sensor but a proper diagnostics is usually cheaper in the long run.

Cool beans. I check it out here in the next couple of days. You would think if they had a code for a problem it would be specific, but that would be too easy.

Thanks!

Br/Lg is 2.5v connected, 5v disconnected. Going shopping, thanks again.
