Flex Plates

I have replaced the flex plate in my 86 2.9 (with a Jasper tranny) six months ago. The center busted out again just driving down the road. Question is what caused it to bust? Should I have got one from Ford? All the parts stores Flex plates look so thin. Is there a better plate build to handle an up graded tranny. Someone suggested the harmonic balancer may be bad. How do you check that. Open for suggestions...................

have u checked your flexplate spacer? maybe your input shaft is bent? or bellhousing bushing
