finally got my newly built explorer rear axle in, so i have lockers at both ends, and 4.56 gears.. full specs in my sig..

my girl and i went out and did a little night wheeling at a local easy trail.. well its easy now, but last year i broke my front spider gears on one of the rock faces.. (3.27 gears, 33's, open diff)

it was dark so the pics aren't great, but theres a nice little wash out which is pretty good for showing some flex, still had some more to go, but i popped a 760x cap off somehow, so i finished the trail 2wd.. i really need some more M/Ts, the lockers are great, but the tires--not so good.

enjoy!

With full clips I popped caps a few times. If the press fit is not that tight then I guess the cap can still spin and pop the full clip off. Now I tack weld them in and havent had any problems.

Nice truck by the way.

holy drop pitman arm batman

yea, its sweet huh.. that is the small drop arm that came with the sj kit.. i'm gonna do a modded superrunner eventually, i have a car for a DD, so its not a priority, but its the next plan :icon_cheers:

Now I tack weld them in and havent had any problems.

thats what i plan to do with my spare set of shafts as i've already had 2 failures, i need to learn to weld/get a welder, my welding favors are probably running out (just had my friends stepdad weld up the exhaust in 3 spots on my subaru like a month ago, and last week i had him weld the perches/shock mounts to the new axle for the truck... i did buy him a 12 pack though, money not accepted)

Lockers and a good set of tires make all the difference in the world.

yea, i did some pretty hard stuff with open diffs and just regular procomp mud terrains, but even with the bfg a/ts and lockers, im able to do so much more. i can't wait till i find a good set of m/t's or swampers for sale.

look good, bring it over we'll get you welded up

what do you set the amps at for tacking the caps on? I know you dont want to burn thru to the needle bearings... I may do this now, before i spit a cap out.

truck looks good man. ned im guessing you mean erics house right. me and raider will have to take you out to some harder trails this fall or spring. (even if im still on my quad not in my truck:annoyed:)

id go pretty low on the amps just enough to stop the cap from falling out.(never tacked caps but its what id do.)

I use 1/8" 6011 Rod at about 80 amps. Set a tack on the outer and inner most parts of the yoke. The key is to do fast but good tacks. If you set the amps too low the weld just cracks. 6011 does cut deep so watch out that you dont blow through a cap, because with 6011 at 80 amps this can be done.

a more "easier" rod to use would be 6013.. its a bit smoother than the 6011... it wont "cut" in as much but should be sufficient enough to keep the ends of your caps on.. hell this weekend i burned some 1/4 7018 now thats some BIG ROD... had to fix a wood splitter for my brother in law.. 210 amps
