On a 91 4x4 with elec T case is there a way to flat tow behind a RV other than the driveshaft disconnect?

Thanks.

yes, there is a ford tsb explaining how to put the transfer case in neutral.

i don't remember if its something you have to do everytime you want to tow, or if its something yuo can set up to be a permanant mod

Remove the motor from the back of the t-case, there are 4 10mm bolts.
There is a shaft that sticks out of the back of the t-case, it's shaped with a point that points to the shift position. The shift positions are casted into the housing behind the motor. Turn the shaft with pliers.

It's very simple, takes maybe 10 minutes. I figured it out on my back in the mud in december.

This is much easier than pulling the driveshaft out to tow it, then putting it back in to use the truck, then pulling it back out.......

This can also be done if you run into electrical problems that prevent the use 4x4.

Sorry I looked for a pic, but the only pic I have of a t-case with the motor off, is covered in mud.

I would consider swapping out to a manual shift t-case. That can get pricey, but its an easy swap.

Here's a lil more info,

Also know that you only have to worry about this if your Ranger is an automatic. If it has a manual transmission, I'm 99.99% sure you can just put the tranny in neutral and tow it.

That is what I am looking for, I am afraid it will be impossible to find, if I could duplicate it I would be in good shape.
Thanks.

afaik u want the tranny in gear so the output shaft is not turning. the oil pump is driven by the input shaft, but if the tranny is in neutral the output shaft is turning with the wheels and can fry the tranny

Yeah, I recommend against towing the Manual with the trans in neutral.

I'd HIGHLY recommend converting to a manual T-case.

But then again I'd HIGHTLY recommend doing so even if you were never going to tow it.
