Good evening fellas. I have searched and haven't quit gotten the answer I'm looking for so I thought I would ask you fellas.

First off I have a 89 Ranger regular cab 4WD 4cyl 5-speed, my rear end was going out so I found a replacement 7.5 from a 99 now before you start bashing me about not swapping to an 8.8. I got this one for free. So back to the problem at hand.

Obviously my drive shaft want bolt up to the newer pinion flange because the the new one is bigger. So what is the quick fix here? Do I need to find a newer driveshaft or is there an adapter ? I looked at the spicer 2-2-1379 but it doesn't look like it would fit the u joints in my current drive shaft.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There's a 'hybrid u joint that will help you.

Been too many years since I slung parts...

Should still be commonly available at auto zone's.

Small caps on one axis, big on the other. Popular with Chevy guys, iirc

Been wrong before...will be again.

Get the driveshaft yoke/flange piece from a '90+ to match the differential pinion flange. If your '89 takes 1310 u-joints it should be able to swap right on. If not they have conversion U-joints like previously mentioned. Also being that your truck is 4wd did you confirm the new axle ratio matches the front axle ratio? Being a 2.3 4x4 it should have 4.10s stock so the new axle would need 4.10s in it also.

Btw I love 2nd gen 2.3 4x4s, got any pictures of yours?

Why not use the yoke from the axle you took out?

Turbo. It is indeed 4.10 gears. I'll have to ck and see if I can find the yoke from the newer drive shaft.

Plum crazy are you talking about using the axle flange from the 89 and putting it on the 99 axle?

Well I ran by the local bone yard a found a dive shaft yoke/flange from a 98 model. And found one of the hybrid ujoint a from the parts store so hopefully one way or the other it will work. Fingers crossed. I'll let you guys know how it goes when I get off work this evening. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for all the help fellas, driveshaft Flange/yoke from 98 plus the hybrid ujoint and its hooked up. Just gotta get some new brake lines and it'll be on the road again.

Awesome. Glad you got it sorted. :)
