I think I found my fuel mileage problem... apparently my oxygen sensor that was 1/8" from the frame had ran into it a time or two... relocated that to a safe location (would have preferred the element face down instead of up, but hey, space is limited). A while ago I was getting around 10mpg just driving down the highway, when I first put the turbo engine in the first few tanks I got 17ish mpg, now I'm back to that point. Anyway, while I was there, I went to 2.5" exhaust with a Thrush welded muffler from Jegs ($40 shipped for basically a flowmaster 40). I haven't put a cat back in as I ran out of cash, but it's in the plans, not enough exhaust resistance to keep heat in the turbo to retain bottom end, a high flow cat should make it just about right.
The issues I still have is it'll flood out on a hot restart, I have to floor it to clear flood and feather the pedal to keep that running, it takes just the right touch. As far as I can figure the coolant temperature sensor is shot, either that or the air temperature sensor. Do the knock sensor and coolant temp sensor have the same connectors on a '86 TC engine? if so, is the coolant sensor the one by the injectors or the one pointing sideways toward the drivers fender? I'm wondering if I plugged in the wrong one... I connected the one by the injectors to be the coolant temp sensor and don't have the other hooked up (didn't have wiring).
I also grabbed a oil cap from another engine in the junk yard as mine was broken (the top of the cap fell off, worked fine just wasn't purdy), all I could find was one with a vent hole but I took advantage of that and routed a hose from that into an oil jug and all of my "rust prevention" has stopped for the time being, hasn't even leaked any oil into the jug... and I haven't been the nicest to it in the last few days, I spent wednesday through early today at the sand dunes having some fun until my power steering pump decided to make some bad noises and on the way home my alternator stopped charging... it'll be nice not using a whole bunch of oil and actually being able to afford gas for the thing...
