Can a dash from a 94 Ranger bolt into a 98 Ranger cab? The roof of my 94 Std cab is damaged in a few area's & it would cost $600-938 to fix the damage to the roof or I can get a whole 98 extended cab for $100 with the doors missing & missing 1 side window for extended area.

I would like to keep the 94 style dash for a few reasons: I already have bought a grey dash to replace my blue one & have white faced back lite over lays for my instrument cluster & most important I don't want to have to deal with the OBDII wiring & computer crap.

Also what about the firewall connections will the opening's in the 98 allow for the wiring in my 94?

I know that I would need to extend my frame by about 17" as I want to KEEP my 7ft bed ,so I guess I could be the ONLY extended cab long bed owner.

Is $600-900 really more than the time to gut a cab, transplant it into ANOTHER cab, stretch your frame 17", stretch your DRIVELINE 17" - without getting any vibrations, not to mention make it all moce with a 2.3? Sounds like a lot of work....

I want a extended cab & when its all done may not even need to make drive line longer as it will have the 4wd tranny & transfer case installed to convert to 4wd as its 2wd now & will be having the 2.3 turbo charged when I have to rebuild the engine when ever that happens as I have over 178k on the clock now & still purrs like a kitten.

I have a long bed & a canopy for it so I don't want to loose the space available for camping & hauling.

if you streche the frame 17", something in the driveline would have to change or youre going to have a really disproportionate truck. If youre talking leaving the axle and such in the same location, its going to mean relocating the wheel wells in the box, and it also means youre loads would be shifted pretty far back. I guess it wouldnt be as bad as say an 8ft bed and extended cab, but it still sounds like you got your work cut out for ya. I'd be interested to see how this plays out...

the frame would be made longer after the rear of std cab & rear ext cab mount's welded to the new frame section,so the axle & bed would still be in same location

FYI - The ext cab rear mount and the front bed mount are the same bracket.

The dash will fit as far as dimension-wise, but your going to run into a few other firewall related problems.
The whole HVAC system is totally different. You will have to cut out a section of the fire wall and replace it with the old one.
The mounts for the steering column are different. (See solution above)
The hole for the main harness is different. (see solution above)
The computer is in a different location (see solution above or modify engine harness)

You might be better off cutting out the entire firewall and swapping your old one in.

sounds like the firewall swap would be the best way to solve that issue.

Or I might just make a pattern of the 94 firewall & cut out any openings & weld it over the top of the 98 firewall, which would be much quicker

Thanks

as far as the firewall swap goes besides 93 & 94 being the same is any of the 92 & older firewalls the same as 93 & 94. Anyone have good pics of the 92 & older firewalls

picked up the 98 extended cab for $80, already have most of it gutted, & bought one pop out window set up & getting the other next week, selling indiglo instrument cluster for $45 & hood for $50 so basically cabs a freebie.

I have cab sitting on top rails of a utility trailer & plan to have it completely gutted of everything & check over body very good before hauling it in for a paint job.

Do most body shops allow for a cab or bed to be brought to them on a moveable trailer?

Theres a C/L posting in my area for a 90 ranger. Is the firewall from that year the same style as on my 94 Cab

two really important things

1) the 2.3 can move a supercab just fine
2) why do you think obdII is somehow harder to install thab OBD? it's mostly the same shit.

I know that a 2.3 can move a super cab just fine & if I had all of the OBDII stuff then it would probably not be an issue ,but my truck is a 94 & the super cab that im going to be using is a 98 & it had a 3.0 L in it so I dont have all of the correct wiring for the 2.3L,thats why im going to swap center section of firewall so all of the wiring holes & heater & steering column stuff will be in the same stock location as in my 94.

So basically it will be a 98 Super cab with a the main section of the firewall being from a 94 or previous yrs ,mounted onto a stretched 94 frame to allow for the fitment of the super cab & still retain the 7ft bed.

I want to say only 93-94 will be right. 92 and earlier, and 95+ will not have the computer in the right place. 92- the comp is in the cab, the 93-94 the comp is in the firewall behind the driverside tire, 95+ is totally different. There are other differences, so for a direct fit 93-94 is your only choice.

i looked at a 91 & it seamed to have all the same items in the same locations as on my 94 firewall

The 94 will have a the PCM mounted in the fire wall on the drivers side. The 91 will have the computer harness pass through the pass side inside the truck. Thats the only difference I know of, there may be more.
