So I loaded up an hit the road in the ranger! I had her on the road since about early December, but not really taken any longer trips.
The kids and I headed about 275 miles NE to Machias ME. We were heading up to build a new bunk house at hunting camp. I was hauling a exterior door unit on the Trac-rac, a small wood stove a few windows, some cement blocks, my tools and all the gear for the three of us to be at camp for three nights.
The truck was flawless! I set the cruise for 75 for the 115 miles of highway, which it had no problem with. Then after we hit Bangor, we took the infamous "Airline"/RT,9 to the camp road. The Airline was a twisty 86 mi. run with some pretty impressive hills to pull. Again the ranger took it in stride, it pulled some mile long uphill stretches with all that weight at around 60, and I wasn't pushing it hard at all. Then about 8 mi. of bumpy muddy dirt camp road and we made it!
I've made the trip several times with the old 3.0, what a difference with the 4.0! To say the least I'm happy with how it went.
I love coming to camp, the first time dad brought me I was nine (1991), now I'm bringing my kids up, they are 7 (my girl, Cassidy) and almost 6 (my oldest son Joel). Some great memories coming here. My kids have a tradition with my dad when ever we go to camp. We get some mini donuts and the have "Donuts in bed with Boompa" they all have a donut at the same time and say "Mmmmm, delicious and nutritious!" It's pretty funny, they've been doing that with my dad since my girl was 1.
