Howdy all! I just picked up my first Ranger last night. I usually just work on Broncos so everything is a little different at the moment. She is a 1994 4.0 OHV M5OD-R1 4x4. 260,000 miles. They claimed the engine had been rebuilt not long ago, it runs good for sure, and that the transmission was very new, it does shift very well. I have a couple of issues though.

4x4 not turning on: maybe connectors to switch or TC motor?

Speedometer jumps around by 20 each way: cable or gear in TC?

No cruise control: related to the speedometer or a VSS thing maybe?

Motor jumps up when accelerating, a lot in 5th gear: I ordered new mounts, never done them before though.

Power steering leaks super bad: may just have to replace the pump? They left a bottle of stop leak in the back to help until then.

Thanks for reading! I'll post pics when I
get into town and use a PC.

Sounds like you've got it figured out. Strange that they put in a rebuilt engine and left all of that wrong though.

Welcome Tony~!

If the motor and the speedometer both jump around, I'd say it balances things out. You may need to replace some parts if you want it fixed properly though...and I'd say you may need to post a more specific question in another section...this is the introduction where you can say Hi and welcome and all that stuff...but questions usually get people like me making stupid comments...

Like SenorNoob said...it is a bit strange because the engine is the most expensive by far to rebuild...well, transmissions aren't cheap either...but maybe the other symptoms came up after and they just didn't want to spend more on it...so they unloaded, er, sold it to you...who will take care of it and spend more money until you can unload, er, sell it to someone else...

Forget that...these are good trucks and you will be happy once you get the right answer on how to fix these things properly...pics would be nice...so we know what to watch out for...I mean...:)
