First photos of Maverick

yeah this is an Escape/ Transit based truck. I really don't know why they didn't offer this years ago when the Transit came out, not every fleet/ service vehicle needs to be a small van, there are many times that a contractor does not need a full F150 or even Ranger but an enclosed vehicle will not work.. think appliance delivery especially refrigerators. When you have a considerable distance and fuel to consider, a small frontwheel drive truck with a light load capability is way more than what you need to get the job done.

And with the Escape/ Transit drive train already available, it is a no brainer.

I think it would make a nice commuter vehicle. better MPGs, hopefully comfortable, can put a bike or some plants in the back without having to worry about getting dirt in your carpet.

Could offer AWD with a turbo, make a little zippy tuner truck. Like the Focus RS.

The "Honda Ridgeline of Fords......"

For people who don't actually *need* a truck but want to look cool.....

That's an interesting perspective, but it's 180* off.

More like the people that actually *need* a truck but don't care whether you think it looks cool at all.

Well, let's hope they keep the bed on the small side. At least with the Brats and the goofy VW trucks, there was a limit to how much could go in them.....

Can't wait to see one of these at the home-improvement store with a thousand pounds of mulch in the back, and the bumper dragging the ground.... :p Because you know some idiot will do it ('ve seen people do it with SUVs, if they don't have more sense than that, god help them if they buy something with a bed). Even with the older Rangers, you can get WAY more dirt or sand in the bed, than it was designed to haul. Guessing these will maybe support 500 pounds in the back? So of course some idiot will try to put a ton in one of them.

Guaranteed you will see yellow hats on the roof...

. It's for the Subaru Baja ppl, or the Volkswagen ppl who want a truck too.

Yeah cause bajas and rabbit trucks sold like wildfire.

The only appeal i can see this having is to advancedrileyzone as a parts runner.

At first glance it definitely seems like it's fleet targeted. Maybe it will be more clear once we get real photos and specs.

I’m sure this will fit a lot of people’s needs... I say needs because everyone complaining is talking about their wants, not needs. I don’t really have a need for a crew cab F150 95% of the time, but I have one. I’d probably be better off with something like this and rent an RV for trips like we just took.
Hell, I could probably get one of these for half of the cost of my f150, get way better mileage, rent a full size truck from Lowes for $20 when I need it, rent an RV for long trips like the one we just went on (that would be nice on those 38° nights), and still save $1000s a year.

Contrary to your wants, Times are different. Those Baja's and Rabbit trucks are what ppl are asking for now. (apparently) The need/want for fullsize trucks have shrank, hence the REintroduction of the Ranger. People said the Ranger was too big to be a Ranger and asked for a "courier" type truck. Well, this is it.
We use a "Transit 250" to Do some runs and it handles a lot of weight fairly well. I think it has a 3.5 or 3.7 N/A V6. I don't see why a smaller, truck version of that platform wouldn't be an option. Besides, after dropping all the car models from your line-up, you gotta fill the voids.

Yeah, I wold love something like that. Most of my driving is the commute to/from work, and it's just me. A standard cab pickup is fine, but I also enjoy a good handling car on back roads, and I care about mileage. So a FWD small pickup that handles well, and that I can use to stop for supplies on the way home would be great.

Of course I want a manual and I'm not going to buy a new vehicle anyway, so never mind.....

I think it would do well for those who don’t really need a truck but do need something with more cargo flexibility than a small van or SUV.

It’s definitely not meant for our kind of people. Hell, when have they ever built a Ranger for our kind of people for that matter?

Definitely not my thing but I can see a market for it. Soccer moms and urban cowboys will probably like it.

Could they get the exhaust a little bit lower? I like to hear it hit when I drive over speed bumps and dimes.

Yeah, I don't care who drives this thing where, that exhaust isn't long for this world where it is.

Probably just buggerfabbed on a test mule and just routed to not interfere with anything until they get everything else dialed in.

Hmmm, wonder if you could graft a 4' x 4' bed on the back of a 'smart' car? Who's handy with photo shop?????
