I picked up an aftermarket tailgate for cheap, and I notice it doesn't have any bushings for the pivots.

How do you remove them from a tailgate or can you? I tried pulling on the ones in my current tailgate but since I need it until I get this one painted I don't want to break them doing it wrong.

I see LMC doesn't show them at all for a first or second generation, do the aftermarket tailgates just run steel on steel?

It would be part numbers 19 and 20 on the 93+ tailgate at the bottom.

To be honest with you my 87 doesn't have any bushings at all, I just figured it was supposed to be this way.

My 87 has plastic ones, I had to fixed one of sides so i just pulled off another ranger at pick in pull, I think it was a 93.
I think thy are all the same

When I was playing with it and the JY I noticed there was a lot of slop in it, but I noticed there were not bushings so I figured that was the problem.

Do they just pop in there?

if I remember right the tail gate bushings in the "Help!" section of your local parts store labeled for a Dodge work just fine.

Thy have one of those one way trees in the center , so you have to be careful when you remove them.
I used a medium flat screw drive and pushed it out the back side of the busing holder.

I think its the right side that has a slot in it, thy seem to be harder to find in one piece. thy just get old and like to break in half.

I wished i had a photo, i cant find one of the part

I have them in my current tailgate, I just didn't know how to get them out or if I could even get new ones.

Right now my new one is disassembled awaiting paint.

No bushings in my rattly tailgate so I found these and ordered them.

Unfortunately, I think they are for the 93 and up Rangers. They're a bit too small. For now, I have one of the right hand side bushings in, even though it's too small. It'll cut down on the noise for now...

Hopefully someone out there will find the right ones for our 1st and 2nd gens. I'm looking too so I'll let you know if I find some.

I believe this was from a 89 and fits perfect one of these days I will strip it down and get some paint on it.

I couldnt find anything either I had to go to bone yards and was able to grab that one before it hit the yard. I remember the guy was real hung over and I stuck 60 bucks under his nose didnt even have to get my feet wet. The truck was just unloaded off the roll truck the cables were even like new. Humm now for the paint a little cold and wet for that.

How are they too small?

IIRC the parts they mate with are bolted on... could they be switched too?

Mine is like new, $50 out of the yard. :D

Now that Chrismas is over it is totally the wrong color, I have the back side about half stripped. I wish I would have just scuffed and painted that side... all those dimples are a major PITA.
