I have been told by someone who frequents the wrecking yards that some First Gen Ranger/Bronco II models had factory steering stabilizers installed.

I haven't been able to find anything online about these units. Wondering if anyone knows of them, a p/n, diagram etc.

I would like to find one as they supposedly install better than any of the aftermarket units.

I have never seen anything on 1 gens in JY's, neither my truck or my '86 parts truck had anything.

IMO if the truck is set up close enough to right you shouldn't really need anything. For sure not stockish.

'87's & '88's I've been under didn't have any either, just sway bars.

Some of the online catalogs just don't work well. Best to just wait and speak to a human being.

^^This.

Also I would look toward the STX highrider package equipped trucks. I would think those have more of a need for a steering stabilizer than a regular Ranger.

I have had go through my hands over a dozen 1st gen RBV's including an STX hi-rider. None had a stock steering stabilizer. That's not to say that it wasn't an option.

Ford is not big on using steering stabilizers on anything lighter than a 250.

Even the 250s back then didn't usually get them from the factory. It's not a Chrysler where the front end and trans are shot before it rolls off the carrier and the dealership, they don't bother putting them on anything as light as a Ranger.

Men......because of constantly fighting fluid leaks-chafed hoses-leaking pump fittings & tank all over my brand-spanking-new-state-of-the-art-concrete-uptown-driveway-(and my wife pointing out the problem which I can't blame her)....

When the OEM P/S pump finally went out, I bought a good manual box/pitman arm/$35/PullaPart and installed it/piece of cake--my biceps have increased 2" in the last 6 months and there hasn't been a leak in the driveway since-LOL.

It's an exercise getting into a tight parking spot, but once I;m rollimg 5mph or more, it's like having power steering.

The problem is....even though the tie-rods are parallel/new rag joint/EVERYTHING is tight.....

when I hit a New Orleans pothole (deep as a gumbo pot)........

the steering wheel spins about 3/4 of a turn/nearly breaks one of my wrists because the manual box has no power to fight back.

That's why I'm installing a good quality off-road steering stabilizer---to get rid of sore wrists!!!!!
