Firestone Destinations A/T vs Bridgestone Duelers Revo 2

With help from members here you guys steered me toward the Firestone Destination A/T and the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 and I'm having one or the other put on tomorrow.

I had a chance to go to one of the Firestone Complete Auto Care Centers today and was able to compare the two, the Destination's are about $130 cheaper but am I crazy in liking the looks of the Revo's better?

The Firestone guy said the Destination's are a great tire and I don't think I've read a bad review on them. He also that while it and the Revo 2 are both rated for 50,000 miles guys have actually been getting even more miileage out of the Destination's. On the other hand he has had the original Revo's on his suv for a year and loves them even though I've read where some of them were wearing prematurely.

I actually forgot to ask him the most important question which one rides better!

I think the thing I like most about the Revo 2's though is the larger outlined white letters (a little more like my BFG's on my pickup now) plus a little more aggressive tread.

Anyway I want to save bucks as much as the next guy but does it make sense to buy more expensive tires (Revo 2's) just because you prefer the looks of them regardless if they might not be any better than the cheaper ones (Destinations)?

Thats one of those things only you can answer. Personally though I dont think I could bring myself to spend that much extra cash based off looks. I just bought a set of the Destinations based off all the positive reviews. They are going on this week after I re gear. Either way though you cant go wrong with either of those. They are rated 1 and 2 on tirerack and have actually been going back and forth for the number 1 spot.

I will admit i like the looks of the revo 2's. the guy i had bought my truck from swears by them... but i swapped to my MTZ so i don't know how they were...

I had REVO's on my previous Sport Trac. Awesome tires in all conditions but they did wear out pretty fast, like 25,000 miles. I just got Destination A/T's for my new Sport Trac, not quite as good in snow as the REVO's but they seem like they will last longer.

Well I had decided to go with the better deal on the Destinations A/T's but changed my mind after I got to the Firestone dealer and bought the Revo 2's instead.

While I like them I guess I was hoping for a night and day difference like a lot softer ride (vs old tires) but maybe I will need to drive them awhile. My 2003 Ranger FX4 has been my first experience with a 4-wheel drive vehicle and I've always thought it rode kind of rough and attributed it to the BFG MTS Land Terrains but apparently that's not it.

I had a 1988 Ranger (2-wheel drive) before the FX4 and it rode so soft/smooth so it must be the heavier suspension/4-wheel drive that accounts for the rougher ride.

Anyway the Revo 2's grip the rode a lot better than my old tires so I'm sure I'll learn to appreciate them more the more miles I put on them.

The Off-Road Package and FX4 Rangers simply have very stiff shocks from the factory. I had a regular '99 XLT 4x4 that had a pretty nice ride for a 4x4 truck, after that I got an '02 Off-Road that rattled my teeth and beat the snot out of me daily for three years until I got an '05 Sport Trac, which felt like a Town Car by comparison. I'm in my vehicle a lot for work every day and the Off-Road was just very tiring to drive. Roads in PA aren't very smooth. Consider getting Monroe Sensa Trac shocks, ought to smooth it up some.

Thanks JohnnyO I bought my FX4 with 85,000 miles so I'm not sure what shocks are on it but surely not the originals. Can you provide a link to the Monroe Sensa Trac shocks so I know exactly which ones you are talking about and what they cost I put in a search and I get various styles and prices?

There is only one Sensa Trac shock that Monroe makes. Their Reflex shock is good also but will ride stiffer. I had a set of Sensa Tracs put on my previous Sport Trac at Sears for about $200 installed. At that price it wasn't worth the bother of putting them on myself.

(Been told here before, long story short, I originally bought a set of Pro Comp shocks but when I went to put them on I found that a number of small parts were missing and one shock was obviously defective out-of-the-box. I said **** it and drove to Sears on three shocks and sent the Pro Comps back. Gen 1 Sport Tracs have the opposite problem, the OE shocks are too soft, a common complaint. I got new ones at only 12,000 miles after I hit a ripple on I-90 and got sideways at 75 mph. )

I think so but you might want to start a thread in the suspension forum to see if anyone has opinions on anything else. Bilsteins might ride a little better but for sure they cost a lot more.
