finished lifting + new tires and wheels!

+1 i would do a nice stand built motor... but some nice parts on it, edelbrock intake, holley carb (i loathe fuel injection)

things will come together eventually. ive got a 4.0 but it has got over 200k on it probably without being cared for. the woman befor me let it sit for 2 or 3 yrs. then i think some young guys had it before, and i imagine they didnt run her easy.

i wouldn't put any engine in a truck you have done this much work on, without rebuilding it (unless it's brand new) i would put some serious work into the motor too... make it PURRR

i've never been much for a stock motor going into things guy... though i would put my stock 5L into a ranger, because i've got the 5L ho sitting in my mustang... i'd probably put the mustang gt seats that are in it, in the ranger too (but not my 07)

thats why i havent put it in the ranger. believe me ive considered it. ill keep my 2.3 now that has 136k mile motor that i know has somewhat been taken care of, over a 200k+ 4.0 that i have no idea on the history.

and as much as id like to put a heavily modified 4.0 in there, its just way out of my budget for a 20yr old living on his own with his girlfriend, who works for a salary paid job with no chance of overtime.

Just save up, man. That's what I did when building my BII. Had a budget for a rig and didn't deviate. Although one thing I don't agree with weezl on... FI all the way. I had a carburated rig and it was terrible. I didn't want to take it in the rock because she'd starve out! FI you can tip 'er over, settle it back on it's wheels and start it. Just my $.02

i could get my hands on a carburated 302 if i wanted for $100 or less. only 96k on the motor, but been sitting for 10yrs. by the time i did all the work and fab and cost, i could have a 4.0 fi easily. thats all i would need.

Yeah, just a mild built 4.0 would be plenty! That's all I have plannedfor mine. It doesn't need to be a powerhouse speed machine, that's what low gearing is for. =]

exactly. we'll see what comes along.

Well I'll keep an eye peeled for a build thread. Good luck man! Again, truck looks sweet. :headbang:

yeah some of the other guys had been egging me for a build, so ill probably start this week. itll be pretty simple haha.

but thanks man! i appreciate it! and i havent seen much of your ranger, but im loving your b2! i was thinking about stealing your sliders haha

i should clarify, i didn't mean dump 10 000 into a motor, because no one really has money to do that (and if you do, i don't like you very much...) i was just meaning build it up so it's a motor worth telling people about, not just "it's a 4L" even my mustang's motor, it's a 5L with a port polished, polished aluminum upper intake, shaved heads (.003", but they don't need to know that) 73mm maf, off road h pipe, and bypassed EGR (for cooler intake, not quite cold, the mustang has coolant lines running to the EGR body to keep it cool, with no egr, you don't need the coolant lines, so you're not heating all of your intake)

it's really not that much, you could do all of that to a vehicle in a day, maybe 2, and my total cost on all of that was about $250...

FI is better than carb for sure, i just HATE!!!!!!!!!!! fixing fuel injection... electronic crap is crap! so difficult to diagnose, which sensor is it? why is it doing this? old school motor, it's pinging? put better fuel in, check the timing, it's too rich? check plugs and/or lean it out, too lean, richen it up! everything is adjustment screws and it's so simple to work on

and i THINK, someone, maybe holley? makes an off road carb that isn't AS susceptible to heavy angles and sucking air

The Truck Avenger, yeah. I don't know, OBD1 isn't too bad to diagnose. Only a few sensors, OBDII suck!

odb NOTHING!!!!

is odb1 the same thing as eec-iv? i've never heard of odb 1 till a little while ago... maybe it's an american thing...
