I would guess that you ended up with another bent shaft. The seals are stupid easy to replace after you have done it a few times. I actually carry a spare in case I have to change a shaft on the trail.
Pull the shaft. Insert a broad tipped flat head screw driver behind one edge of the seal, and pry it out. Some times you have to work around the seal but it will come.
Next, use a clean rag to remove oil from the seal surface of the axle tube.
Installing the new seal I place a thin bead of Blue RTV sealant around the outer edge (why I dunno, its the way I was told and the way I have done it for a while) and then using the socket for the front bearing nuts I tap the seal into place.
It is important to start the seal by hand to prevent the seal from going in sideways.
Also, when inserting the new axleshaft, do your best to not slide the shaft in the new seal surface, it is possible to tear the new seal. You may not visually see a tear but it may cause it to leak.
