Finding a 4.56 8.8" rear axle in the jy.

what vehicles came equipped with this axle. I'm mainly concerned with finding one out of a 1999-2001 explorer with axle code 89. in other words I have the codes but is there a specific model that came with these gears? (four cylinder explorers with EB package for example)I have yet to see one in a jy. Thank You again!

From what I understand, they're somewhat of a unicorn.

The axles codes are 98 and R8. I think the 4.56 axles came in FX4 trucks.

You might find them in a FX4, but I highly doubt it.

you are a LOT more likely to find a 4.10 geared explorer axle

4.10 can be found easily.

Good freakin' luck...they don't exist. Yes I know the axle page says they exist but as said above, it's a unicorn and a totally mythical part. I feel safe to say that possibly that axle code and 4.56's are used in other countrys with totally different Ranger trucks.

Yeah, Fx4 models came with 4.10's, even the 'Level I' trucks. And 4.10's were optional on all other models.

I never could find a 4.10 expo axle when hunting for 6 months at 10 different yards.

They are very common in the sport tracs.

Most explorers seem to get the 3.73 ratio it seems.
