Hello all!

Today I finally bought myself a ford ranger. I have wanted one for years, but finally took the plunge.

I bought a 2011, 4 x 4, fully loaded. I was very happy with the price I got and can't wait to pick it up Monday!

Through the process, I looked at a few other vehicles - the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Wrangler, GMC Canyon, and the Toyota Tacoma. All of them were very nice vehicles. The only one that really made me think was the Tacoma. That is a nice vehicle, but it is a huge price difference.

My only question right now is whether or not to get the extended warranty. 1900 for 7 year, 120km comprehensive. Anyone have any suggestions?

welcome and i would skip the extra's .......but i'm cheap.....

I look at these things 2 ways.A huge part of what your buying is dealer mark up and the company that your buying the warranty from makes money too.So by the odds that they laid down your ahead to self insure so to speak.

A big part of the warranty experience is fighting the dealer to find out if it's covered or not.The money you buy the warranty with covers any and all repairs if you don't give it to them till the repair.

Nice list but welcome to the brotherhood. There is a simple fact about the Ranger and it is in my signature down below.

Welcome to our little slice of Ranger heaven on the internet.

Saw a Wrangler at the autoshow and it was $38k. That seems a lot for a Wrangler, even if it was a fully loaded 4dr Wrangler.

On the extended warranty, really read through it to see what it covers and if there are deductibles. Also determine how long you are keeping the truck and how much you are going to drive it. If it were me, for $1900 and if you plan to keep the truck the 7 years or put a lot of miles on it, I would get it (depending what the exclusions are). I had an SUV once that I got it on and got my money worth out of it and I only had the SUV for 4 years (but put a lot of miles on it). 2 big things were replacing an airbag (due to defective horn) and replacing the transmission. On my current car (not the Ranger) I don't think I really used the extended warranty.

I bought my Ranger when it was two years old, and only had 15,035 miles on it. I didn't get the extended warranty because I didn't figure I'd have it that long. Well, 16 years and 150,000 miles later, I still have it. I wouldn't trade that truck for anything. Granted, I didn't have any major issues in what would have been the warranty period, but peace of mind is always a good thing. As it is said, "It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
