i have 86 b2 and i cant figure what this is or does ,when i took it apart it looks like it should have a filter in it.the reason im asking is i drove it on a 300 mile trip ran great, but on the way home it started acting like it was running out of gas.
as long as i kept it below 6o mph it plunked away with little power. i stopped in winslow ,az thinking it was possibly a filter all i did was tapped this filter and bingo took off and it ran fine. i know i have a filter on the frame rail forward the high pressure pump, but cant figure what this one does?

Looks more like a canister style fuel filter assembly. Rock auto shows the filter elements for a 86 bronco II/ranger with a v6.

Someone else probably has seen this before. It's a new one for me. I've not seen this exact part. Most likely the base unscrews and that is how you replace the element.

Early ones had a filter. Not all of them do.

I have the same thing in mine. Is it a filter or another kind of a pump?

In an 87 it is neither. It's just a reservoir to the HP pump has something to take up the slack during heavy acceleration.

The later ones don't come apart, but do have a screen in them.

My '86 Ranger had a filter in it. Its canister with a filter in it. I'd unscrew the bottom piece and see what you find.

Thanks guys. I'll see if mine unscrews.

That is exactly what it is. It is the canister in the fuel line that holds the fuel filter. I had issues with mine as well in my 86 B2 and it had a leaf that was stuck in the canister clogging the line. The bottom will screw off and the filter just sits in it.

yea i finally pulled mine apart filter was pluged with fine particals.
the later models like my 88 b2 has a filter after the the high pressure pump
