so i was talking to some friends, and they tell me i can get oodles more tire clearance with "prerunner type" fiberglass fenders. is this correct? and would it allow me to run 35's with a superlift 5.5" lift kit?

Yes....prerunner fenders are an awesome way to keep a low C.O.G. and gain massive tire clearance.
Here's my truck with the stock inner fender and the prerunners, it shows how much more clearance you gain.
