my poor bedsides on my 89 are starting to rust out. So, i'm tossing around the idea of going to fiberglass bed sides (possibly the ones Mcneil racing sells.). those of you who have used these before, how durable are they. the plan would be to install them on to my existing bed. I use my truck quite often for hauling dirt bikes, and I don't want them cracking every time I bump up against one.

I will be honest with they arent indestructible, but will take leaning against so long as you dont slam into them, i have fronts and lean on them while working but wont put all my weight against them

wow i wouldnt think that would be able to hold that wow, i dont think i would trust them that much, but then again you made yours too so it could be alot thicker.

They are pretty durable, just make sure to make suports to hold the them,at the lower edge of the wheel weels. so they are not flapping in the wind, and make stress/spider cracks.
I have stood on glass bedside before loading up trucks and never had any snap.but I only weigh about 160.Really they are pretty durable. Smacked some fenders once with a bat, took 3 good wacks to do any real damage to them.(guy owed me money that he refused to pay back)

If you live in a cold area that get's ice/snow etc. Id make sure to paint/seal them up good. So that water dose not wick up in them and frezze. That will make them crack.

Might be worth building a headache rack/box rail setup to keep weight of standing on the box sides off the fiberglass and on the box frame.

Wow, sounds like these things are more durable than I expected. Ill probably just have to set up some kind of rail across the top just in case a dirt bike peg comes in contact with them. thanks for all the input.

I have a set on mine. I'm not sure what brand they are, got them off CL for about $300 already mounted on a bed. they seem to be pretty durable. But the only thing I really miss Is having the post holes. Also the other down side is you kinda need to either get larger tires are shackle flip to fit the tire in the wheel well better.

all step side rangers have fiberglass bed sides. my bed sides on my truck took a direct hit from the handle bar on my yahama xj 750 when it just about fell out of truck one day. did not crack or puncture the bedside just a scratch.

I had hannaman fenders on my old truck that I didn't worry about leaning on. I probably treated them better than I would have normaly but they definately made a nice flat place to set tools on. They did die with the truck but so did everything else.

yeah everytime im hangin out drinkin some beers some where im always telling people to lay on the bumper not the fenders please because i dont want them to crack...

but the more supports you use the stronger it is.. nobody really does that ¨reinforce the middle areas and stuff ¨ but if you are worried reinforce it

in case you were wondering, they DO NOT hold up to a 66 bronco going 15 mph. i still love my dad tho.
