Hey. I ordered the 3 inch PA body lift today for my 2004 4x4 Edge and was wondering the following:
*do you lose the tow hooks
*do any lines / cables need to be lengthened
*if your not using the rear bumper bracket does the bumper still have to come off
*install time by a "normal" person

Thanks in advance. Any other info regarding the install of this kit would be great!!

1. Either lose the tow hooks or cut some ugly-ass notches in the front valence.
2. I don't think so.
3-4. I don't know.

Johnny is right about the first one. Some fuel filler hoses have to be extended. On my truck I didn't have to. The rear bumper does not have to come off unless you plan on raising it. If you're doing it by yourself for the first time, I would estimate a day. Depends on how the bolts wanna act and if you have all the tools handy. Me and a buddy put one on in less than 2 hours.

Thanks very much. Right now I'm having a really hard time getting the tow hook bolts out haha. But thanks for the info guys.

Someone on here cut two rectangles in their valence for the hooks to poke through and it looks awesome. I just got mine today we should communicate simultaneously on our progress.

That sounds good. I'm probably just going to lose the tow hooks. I should start "seriously" working on it tomorrow so I'll update as I go along GB4000.

I remember seeing him over at R-F but can't remember who it was. But if I do remember right, he had the black flimsy bumper cover and it looks like jggtjr has the regular bumper.

Does anyone know how to get the cab mounting bolts loose? Thanks.

spray them and take em out just like regular bolts. use either impact wrench or pull bar.

Edit: Which ones you meaning, inside or by the radiator ?

The inside ones. I'm going to try the impact tomorrow.

1. Yes, unless you want UGLY holes cut in your valence. I vote lose them and install a hitch up front

2. Well...if you read your instructions, only thing needs lengthening are the fuel filler neck lines, even so, some trucks dont need the lengthening.

3. You are not using the rear bumper brackets? WHY!?!?? Answer to your question: no.

4: Did mine by myself using air and heat in 7 hours.

Take your front bumper off first. Then attack the hooks.

HEAT HEAT HEAT HEAT IMPACT IMPACT IMPACT IMPACT!!!!

Just a small propane torch will do it...but i like to use MAPP gas..it burns a few hundred degrees hotter than propane. You'll see....the bolts are threaded full length and COVERED in locktite.

If the mount(the 'nut' if you will) starts spinning on ya, more heat...heat 'em til the bushing just starts to smoke, then hit 'em with the impact. If spinning continues, take a pair of needle nose vice grips, grip the metal flange, let it spin to act as a 'stop' for the spinning, and that should help.

WD40 won't do shit to help you in this department. It's all about melting the locktite and an impact.

Thanks very much Fx4wannabe01 for your response. I'm getting ready to go heat up the bolts and impact them off. The reason for the bumper is that I've got dual exhaust 45'd out the back and the trailer hitch. I'm still trying to decide, but I posted another post looking for pics of some with the diamond.

ohhhh....well...you wanna lift it. believe me. you'll never hear the end of it from me if you post pics! lol.

Usually, hitch plus BL bracket on the bumper = way more than a 1 person job. Reason being is that both mount to the same holes on the frame.

BUT....easiest 1 man way is bolting the new bumper brackets to the existing hitch bolts(leave loose). Then bolt the bumper to the brackets with the threads of the hardware facing outside. This way, you'll have access to all the nuts from the outside, where as the instructions show you differently, you can't access those bolts.

Exhaust: Short trip to the exhaust shot for some reworking(should be pretty cheap). Hitch gap: deal with it...it really isn't all that bad.

Here's my 2.5" lifted hitch vs. a stock hitch:
