Fed up!

sounds like what my 94 did when the steering box was getting warn. replaced it and pulled the old one apart and found a big crack in one of the bushings. i dunno if this helps and it was about 6 yrs ago so i dont remember too much on details but the reman box i bought fixed this issue. we thought it was a suspension issue for a very long time.

I have been suspecting the steering box for a while. I am just apprehensive to to keep changing more parts without being sure that it is worn. Everything I have changed so far has shown wear or defect. There isnt much play in the steering and I can't tie the sound to any feeling in the steering wheel or column.

I would check other things besides mechanical. Such as air box or something under the hood loose. Also items inside the cab. Have seen many clunking sounds that are not mechanicly related

Thanks for the reply. I started heading in that direction recently. I thought maybe a seat mount, or the jack behind my seat. Nothing found so far. I was hoping it was something easy (stupid) like that. I relooked at my body mounts the other day and got 4 or 5 threads more out of my drivers side. It seems to be a little better so I am going to go around to all of the body mounts and reinspect/torque them. None of the rubber is dryrotted, but I suppose the metal bushing around the bolt could be floating around in there due to the stretching of the rubber mount and I just cant see it.

Either way the truck drives so much tighter since replacing most of the front end bushings, so all is not lost I suppose.
