I know it isn't a Shadow, or a GT40, or anything super :drool: special like that, but it may just be the last one in existence:

That's right boys. A brand new, still in unopened package, lock switch for a 1st gen Ranger. Right off the dealership shelf.

Yeah, now I just need to find a master window switch. Otherwise I'm about $200 into a project that I may not be able to finish.

EDIT: On second thought, this switch just might work.

Back when I was collecting parts for my 87 ranger, I came across stuff like this. I spent years on ebay and going to junkyards. I bought new oem door seals, swing away mirrors and some other parts. I found a barely used tailgate with the tailgate panel and tailgate cables in almost new condition. Every now and then I found a 1st gen ranger for sale in almost new condition, almost bought a few of them, but was too attatched to my truck. Then I bought an 86 4x4 supercab that needed a lot of work and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth MY time given the circumstances and bought my 07 ranger. I miss that though, coming across a part I never thought I would find. It feels awesome doesn't it?

That is a neat feeling. Once in awhile we get or find parts that have the punchtape tags (before barcodes) from I suppose the 50's and 60's. Those are the parts (unless they are gaskets or seals due to age) you KNOW are superior to anything being made today aftermarket...

When I started my job we had an SVT Raptor badge on the shelf. That was about a month before they were "official" out and about a year before we saw one up here. Needlessness say we returned it to Ford. I was going to buy it but it was something insane like $120.

Did it again...

Had the parts guy look up a master switch for me today and found this little gem at a dealership that is almost close enough to my house for me to throw stones at.

FYI 1st gen guys, there are a few dozen of these scattered across the country, usually priced around $70 retail, but with some nice discounts on the list price. That means the part's managers are trying to get rid of them. Now may be a good time to buy, even if you don't need one right this minute.

Even back then they were making stuff in Mexico. :icon_twisted:

There's a whole collection of damned good reasons while I was mechanically restoring my Ranger over the summer of '07 that I swapped on Gen2 doors....

1)Losing those damned, rusty, noisy LEAKING vent windows
2)Getting an armrest that won't break off
3)Actually having a factory mount for a decent sized speaker in the door without needing to dig to the back of the third drawer to find my 6" hole saw to mount a speaker in the door.
4)having a hard plastic "crap catcher pocket" in the door rather than the elastic powered carborad "pocket" that the Gen1 trucks came with...

Oh... and switches that don't fail as often should I actually embrace the idea of power windows

Wow. I'm surprised you can still find that stuff.

Congrats.

I wouldn't change a thing on mine, I like just having a window crank, door pull/armrest and door latch on my door. No vent, no pouch (never used for anything usefull, just junk to forget about) and no speaker to fill full of whatever and be blocked by my leg.
